Brian Halliday is a pianist, composer, and educator from Clifton Park, New York. He began studying piano at age 8, and percussion shortly thereafter. While attending Shenendehowa High School, he participated in many select honors ensembles such as the Empire State Youth Jazz Ensemble, NYSSMA All-State Jazz Ensemble and the NAfME All-Eastern Jazz Ensemble.

After high school, Brian attended SUNY Purchase College for jazz studies with a concentration in piano performance. Here, he was very fortunate to study with some of the world’s best musicians, including Donald Vega, one of NYC’s premier pianists. He also played gigs in and around New York City with some of his professors, including bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Richie Morales, as well as filling in for pianist Pete Malinverni on numerous occasions. Brian graduated from SUNY Purchase College in May 2020 with Summa Cum Laude.

From 2018 to 2020, Brian taught private piano lessons at The Music Cottage in Brewster, New York to students of all ages, levels and musical genres. He also worked as a teaching assistant and resident assistant at the Skidmore Summer Jazz Institute, whom he represented at the Saratoga Jazz Fest in 2020 with his trio.

He currently resides in the Capital Region, where he is the pianist and arranger for the band Soul Session and the pianist and musical director of the Radio Gold and Sinatra Sunday shows at Panza’s Restaurant in Saratoga Springs. He is also a regular performer at Panza’s Piano Bar. Outside of these steady gigs, he also performs public and private events around Upstate New York.
